This paper provides information on the number, purposes and locations of Deductible Gift Recipients (DGRs) in Australia. Among the findings:
- There are 21,957 DGRs endorsed in Australia.
- Welfare and rights (52%), education (21%) and cultural organisations (14%) are the largest categories of DGRs.
- The distribution of DGRs' main offices throughout the states is consistent with the population density, with slightly more DGRs in Western Australia
- Queensland had 38% of the total DGR receipts, but only 19% of the DGRs had their main address in Queensland.
- Western Australia also had just 7% of the DGR receipts but 11.9% of the DGRs had an address in Western Australia.
- The total reported receipts of DGRs were approximately $42 billion (as of November 2005).
- Half of the DGR population has less than $55,304 in receipts.
- About 40% of DGRs received over 70% of their annual receipts as government grants.
