Why give? People give for a variety of reasons, from the explicit such as religious teachings, to the unspoken or private motivations.

Here are some typical motivations for giving: personal passion for a cause; faith/religion; to give back to society; lack of heirs; desire to make the world a better place; to have a significant as well as a successful life; to be remembered beyond your lifetime; to bring family together with shared values; peer pressure or obligation.

The reasons why people give often influence the way in which they choose to implement their giving. For example, those motivated by personal passion for a cause may well choose to use a vehicle which allows them a lot of control over the management of the organisation and the distribution of the funds.
