This article suggests that calls for accountability are leading funders, donors, and the general public to demand more program evaluation, without understanding evaluation well enough to conduct or fund high-quality studies. It suggests that onerous and overly complicated data collection is a significant burden on nonprofits, at great cost to the organisations and ultimately to those they serve, and suggests some ways to improve the situation.
