This study describes the ways in which the David and Lucile Packard Foundation examined the ideals of quality interaction and clear communication with its grantees, and translated those into specific criteria which could be implemented into the everyday work of the Foundation's staff to strengthen the Foundation's relationship with its grant recipients. The study also documents the reactions of staff to the changes, and lessons learned from the process.
