This paper outlines the importance of leadership in nonprofit organisational capacity, and looks at the funding of leadership as a capacity-building strategy. It predicts a future deficit in nonprofit leadership, exploring the root causes of the deficit, and argues that effective grantmakers could do a better job of supporting nonprofit leaders to strengthen organisations.
