Professor Pat McGorry is Professor of Youth Mental Health at the The University of Melbourne and Executive Director of Orygen Youth Health Research Centre.

As a highly regarded Australian psychiatrist of international renown, Professor McGorry has helped to pioneer the development of approaches for the early diagnosis, intervention and treatment of psychological disorders amongst youth. He is also a founding member of Headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, and during the 1990s investigated the levels of psychological trauma amongst asylum seekers held in detention centres.

In January 2010 he was named Australian of the Year for his servies to youth mental health, and in June of the same year was appointed an officer of the Order of Australia.
