The challenge of encouraging more affluent Australians to give

This paper was presented to the Social Change in the 21st Century Conference at the Centre for Social Change Research, Queensland University of Technology. It discusses potential social change strategies to increase giving by high net worth Australians, drawing from qualitative research conducted in 2004-2005 for the Giving Australia report.
The paper suggests that perceived identity and social networks may be important in encouraging affluent individuals to give at low levels, whereas passion for a cause and personal connections to nonprofit organisations may be central to more substantial giving.
