"To appeal or not to appeal - that is the question", Fundraising & Philanthropy Magazine, issue 12, August-October 2007, p. 26

John Burns, fundraising manager at Médecins Sans Frontières Australia, explains why we should resist the urge to launch huge appeals in the wake of a devastating natural disaster. He points out that an organisation cannot hope to provide comprehensive and effective emergency relief if it is reliant on the funds from an emergency appeal to do so. Further, given the public expectation that funds raised in an emergency appeal will be used during the initial response, is it ethical to raise money in this way?
