This article investigates the relatively recent phenomenon of organisations involved in the nonprofit sector using social media as a networking tool.

The article not only examines how organisations are utilising forums such as Twitter, Facebook and blogs to enhance the effectiveness of their networking and maximise their social impact, but argues that this approach is essentially serving to reorient the manner in which they work and fast becoming a necessity in the sector.

In explaining how social media operates, the authors cite numerous examples of how various organisations have employed these to their advantage, outlining both the benefits and challenges of 'working wikily'. Tips are included at the end advising on how to get started with this new technology, as well as how best to avoid the pitfalls.
